2024 General Expectations

for production cast and crew.

Primarily, we expect everyone to uphold our values of Artistic Excellence, Integrity, Connection to Community and Passion.

Secondarily, we work as an ensemble where each member has a say in the general decisions, but also has a responsibility to fulfil the expectations of the the Company.

For example, as a small company we rely of the collaborative help and support of all members during a production (onstage and off!). That includes help with rehearsals, promotion, set-building, costume and prop collection, and general duties such as cleanup. We do not have a large group of elves backstage and require that everyone maintains a sense of individual and communal responsibility.

Here is a list of the expectations, some general guidelines and what it means to be in one of our high-quality productions.

Synchronicity Expectations of Cast

· Actor performance reviews will occur regularly, with an expectation that under-performing cast may be replaced.

· Attendance at 90% of rehearsals. If an emergency ensues, please contact the director as soon a possible.

·Focused commitment to line learning, with scripts down at agreed times. Remember - “The rehearsal isn’t the time to learn your lines. It’s the time to learn others’ lines.” (See Line Learning below)

· Help distributing printed advertising (postcards / posters) around Bendigo closer to performance dates.

· Mutual responsibility to promote the show to personal networks and encourage attendance.

· Polite and respectful attitude towards all members. Fun banter is encouraged.

·That any complaints come to leadership FIRST. Often there is a simple misunderstanding which can be quickly cleared up.

 Rehearsals

Venue -52 MACKENZIE ST WEST, GOLDEN SQUARE.

  • We will always begin the rehearsal schedule with a full play read through and a Character Development Day

  • After this, rehearsals will usually be held on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons, according to a prearranged schedule to be distributed at the full play read though.

  • NOTE: We may rehearse during public holidays.

  • As a collaborative company, individual rehearsals can be adjusted to suit individuals needs, but only if  pre- arranged with all cast. This discussion should take place at the full play read through.

  • Food - there will be a roster distributed for super/afternoon tea for each rehearsal. Cast are asked to provide a small contribution at their rostered time. (This often devolves into food-envy as people compete to bring the best of their repertoire!) Chocolate never goes wrong! There is a kitchen and the necessary items for tea and coffee making are provided for all.

  • We also ensure that cast have access to cold water and food backstage during productions.

Promo Photo day

The date set for this is announced at the full play read through. It is essential you make every effort to attend this as it will be a part of our broader promotional plan. It will include sets and costumes for character photos, and good casual dress for headshots.

 Line Learning

  • Cast will be expected to learn lines diligently and meet pre-arranged deadlines as a part of their performance review.

  • A general guideline - once a scene is blocked and rehearsed to the ensembles satisfaction, the script must not be used again for that scene. Complete scripts down is usually scheduled for 2 weeks out from dress rehearsal.

  • Cast will be encouraged to make time outside of the scheduled rehearsals to run lines with other cast members.

  • If you are not scheduled to attend a particular rehearsal, please use that time to learn lines.

The Traditional Synchronicity Family Meal

Once every show (usually after a dress rehearsal) we hold our Family Meal for all cast, crew and their immediate family members or significant others. We put out (many!) tables and chairs and all sit down together for a raucous time. This is an opportunity to thank those that support us by sharing a meal together. Generally Synchronicity caters for this. It a great time of connecting and reflects our attitude that everyone is like family!

Money Matters

  • In an attempt to be as transparent as possible, we will share with anyone who asks the financial details of a show.

  • If anyone makes a purchase on the Company’s behalf it will be reimbursed, if it is an agreed pre-arrangement.

  • PLEASE NOTE RECENT CHANGE -Production Actor’s fee - $40.00

This costs supplies the actor with a copy of the script, a costume bag, and other needs associated with rehearsals and performance. We will supply all necessary requirements for productions such as makeup, costume and food needs.

  • As often happens in a smaller company, sometime people work in a dual role (actor/make-up artist). In this situation we will attempt to reimburse the person for their time in the secondary role.
